Featured Town:
Bernardsville, NJ - This Somerset County Boro is about an hour west of NYC and is easily accessible via train or highways. Surrounded by grand estates and rolling hills, this small town (pop about 7800) was once a destination for the wealthy and prominent New Yorkers who came out and built their Summer homes here on the Bernardsville Mountain. Some of Bernardsville's famous residents over the years; Brooke Astor, Meryl Streep, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Tommy Dorsey, Mike Tyson and designer Marc Ecko. Today, it is family oriented with a downtown that houses an old time movie theater from the turn of the century that shows all movies/films. Annual car shows, parades and holiday lights are fun for all the family. Boutiques, coffee shops, town pool, tennis/pickleball courts and a farmers market are all in town. Not too far away, within a short drive - beautiful farms (for pumpkin/apple picking), fragrant gardens and bucolic county parks (for walking and activities), golf courses and country clubs, shopping malls and theater/the arts. Not to be left out are the restaurants we have - a culinary hub with many top notch dining experiences that bring in diners from near and far. Get a taste for all of what we have to offer during Restaurant Week in July!
Secret Spot:
So many 'spots' but one of my favorites is Natirar. A County owned estate and park, once owned by the King of Morocco where you can park and walk around several trails taking in meadows, streams and hilly climbs. Overlooking the park is the mansion house which now houses ninety acres restaurant, a cooking school, a spa and soon to be hotel and residences. It's one of those places that everyone can enjoy.
